About Ms. Kawi
Ms. Kawi is a 6-8 ELA teacher and instructional coach. She runs an Instagram account (@Ms_Kawi), publishes newsletters here on Substack, and writes monthly for PBS Teachers’ Lounge. She recently completed three projects for Learning for Justice Teaching Tolerance and was a recipient of the 2020 Teach For Justice grant by TPT.

My Work: building and sustaining community of independent learners; interrupting and dismantling oppressive classroom and schooling practices; supporting teachers in unlearning teacher neutrality; coaching teachers on the dimensions of equity; unpacking dominant ideology and its manifestations on teaching, learning and relationships; providing resources and education that leads to student, family, and community empowerment
Beliefs: students first; education for liberation; there is clear line between teacher ideology and student outcome
